What is OTN Transmission Technology

OTN transmission technology is a technology that realizes functions such as service signal transmission, multiplexing, and routing in the optical domain. This technology complies with the general model of transmission network specified in ITU-T6.805. From the perspective of OTN network composition level, it can be divided into optical channel layer, circuit layer, optical transmission section layer and optical multiplexing section layer. The OTN network mainly includes key technologies such as optical buffering technology, wavelength conversion technology and optical timing regeneration technology. The OTN network can be regarded as a transition network of the all-optical network, which greatly improves the data transmission capacity of the existing network.


 

The network survival mechanism of the optical layer and electrical layer of OTN transmission technology is relatively complete, which can ensure the reliable transmission of signals, and has the ability of error correction and hierarchical management. The management and monitoring mechanism of each layer of network is relatively perfect, and the functions of dispatching, protection and supervision can be realized in the WDM system. The optical layer in the OTN network can flexibly schedule the optical signals in the bearer service, and provide multiple protection modes according to the service requirements of the optical layer and the electrical layer, provide multiple protections for important services, and meet the requirements for stable network operation. OTN technology is widely used in backbone transmission networks and metropolitan area transmission networks. It can increase network transmission capacity, reduce the consumption of network construction resources, and meet the needs of rapid development of mobile network services.

 

As the product of the integration of power grid and all-optical network, OTN transmission technology has very obvious application advantages. OTN technology can support the mapping of multi-client signals, such as SDH (synchronous digital signal transmission), ATM (asynchronous transmission) and Ethernet. In OTN In the technology, the bandwidth particle of the electrical layer is the data unit of the optical path, and the wavelength is used as the bandwidth particle of the optical layer, so that the particles for multiplexing and crossing are relatively large, and the transmission efficiency can be further improved.

 

OTN has powerful maintenance and management capabilities. In addition to providing overhead management functions similar to SDH, it can also provide functions such as TCM (tandem monitoring), so that OTN can monitor the network through end-to-end and multi-band combinations during networking. performance. OTN technology introduces an optical add-drop multiplexer with reconfigurable functions, which greatly improves its networking capability. OTN adopts the combination of optical layer and optical link protection to effectively protect the network, and the addition of self-healing ring network technology enables OTN to complete automatic recovery in case of failure.
